‘Pompidou Center Metz’ by Shigeru Ban

In 2003 Shigeru Ban, Jean de de Gastines and Philip Gumuchdjian won an international competition to design Pompidou Center in Metz, France.

The 12,000 m2 cultural complex includes 6,000 m2 of exhibition space all contained under the roof. Three rectangular, cantilevered boxes house parts of the Pompidou Center’s permanent collection in a climate controlled environment. Continue Reading →

‘Kloden’ – Egmont High School in Denmark by CEBRA

Our friends from CEBRA shared their recently awarded Sports Center design with us.

The 3.5 m2 extension will incorporate handicap friendly solutions within a sports facility, as almost 50 % of the students attending Egmont High School experience some form of disability whether it be that they are blind, mentally challenged or an amputee. Helsingor Maritim Museum by BIG

On September 14th. 2007, Copenhagen architects Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) have won the competition for the new Danish Maritime Museum in Helsingor.

OMA Wins Competition for New Chu Hai College Campus in Hong Kong

In January 2010, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in collaboration with Leigh & Orange Architects has won the competition for the new campus for Chu Hai College of Higher Education in the New Territories in Hong Kong. Spanish firm XVStudio (Xavier Vilalta Studio) have won an international competition for a mixed-used development in Doha, Qatar.

The ‘Alpha Project’ is a completely self-reliant, innovative development.

The project aims to sensitively capture the essence and culture of the city of Doha, with ancient design traditions forming the fundamental basis of the plan and modern building technologies used as a tool of expression. Winning Entry for ‘Batumi Aquarium’ Competition

Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects for its significant design concept for a new aquarium in the seaport of Batumi, the Republic of Georgia. The invited competition took place in spring 2010 and, in addi-tion to Henning Larsen Architects, the German architecture company Drei Architekten and the two American companies PJA Architects and Pryor & Morrow Architects were in the running to win the competition.

The 2,000 m2 aquarium will replace the previous aquarium of the port and will be situated on the beach side of Rustaveli Str. adjacent to Batumi 6 May Park featuring a Dolphinarium and Zoo. Continue Reading →

Blood Railway Carries Off First Foster + Partners Prize for Sustainability and Infrastructure

3XN Wins Landmark Project in Sweden

Danish architects 3XN have won the First Prize in the invited international competition for a new structure marking the entrance to Vällingby Parkstad in Stockholm, Sweden. According to 3XN, the softly shaped building symbolizes the human values characterizing the revival of Vällingby Parkstad and thus creates a close relation between work life, housing, and leisure.

“It was important for us to create a contrast to the traditional and more angular buildings surrounding the site. This building will add human values and scale to the area – and at the same time it will be a significant landmark for the Vällingby Parkstad,” said Jan Ammundsen, Partner and Head of Competition at 3XN.
