The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 have announced the New York based office HWKN (HollwichKushner) as winner of the annual Young Architects Program (YAP) in New York. As winners of the 13th edition of the program, HWKN will construct an outdoor summer installation at the PS1 courtyard in Long Island City, Queens. The winning proposal, known as Wendy, was selected from five finalists and will provide a unique setting for the popular Warm Up summer music series.
Holm Architecture Office with VM Studio Wins Manhattan Skate Park Competition
International design collective HAO / Holm Architecture Office, in collaboration with New York-based VM Studio, has received first place in a competition for the re-design of the Coleman Oval Skate Park in Manhattan.
Nine New York design firms were invited to participate in the competition, which was sponsored by Architecture for Humanity and a Gamechangers grant from Nike, a campaign encouraging community organizations to empower youth through sports programs that spur social and economic development. Design team Chimera has conceived of an incredible series of spiraling skyscrapers for New York’s Hudson Yards that are modeled after the complex ecosystems created by the mangrove tree.
