International Design Ideas Competition for Hong Kong’s Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The new Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HKZMB) links up Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao in the Pearl River Delta, China. It provides opportunities for significant social and economic development in that region for coming decades.

Being a check-point to entering into Hong Kong from the HKZMB, Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF) will be constructed on a 130-hectares of reclamation site to accommodate the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine facilities of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. To reflect its importance and aim at constructing the HKBCF as a new landmark, an international design ideas competition was organized to draw new design ideas and to engage general public for the master layout plan of HKBCF and layout design of the Passenger Clearance Building.

The winning designs in the Professional Group of the Competition will be taken as reference for the detailed design of the HKBCF.

OMA Wins Competition for New Chu Hai College Campus in Hong Kong

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in collaboration with Leigh & Orange Architects has won the competition for the new campus for Chu Hai College of higher education in the New Territories in Hong Kong.

Three imperatives drive the concept for Chu Hai College’s new campus: a compressed time frame of two years for completion, the natural beauty of the site – a verdant hill overlooking Castle Peak Bay in Hong Kong’s New Territories – and Chu Hai’s venerable history (starting in 1947) of multidisciplinary education. ORDOS 100 by Taller Territorial de Mexico

This villa by Taller Territorial de Mexico is located in plot #97 of the ORDOS 100 project.

‘The scope of the project is to develop 100 hundred villas in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China, for the client, Jiang Yuan Water Engineering Ltd. FAKE Design, Ai Wei Wei Studio in Beijing, has developed the masterplan for the 100 parcels of land and will curate the project, while Herzog & de Meuron have selected the 100 architects to participate. ‘Urban Market’ by Kohn Pederson Fox

The 2010 AIA New York winners were recently announced and this project by Kohn Pedersen Fox received a design award in the ‘Unbuilt’ category.

‘Hua Qiang Bei Road’ Project by Work AC

Finnish Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010

The Finnish pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010 is called ‘Kirnu‘ (‘Giant’s Kettle’). Designed by a team from Helsinki-based architect’s office JKMM, Kirnu won first prize among 104 entries in the design competition, which was announced in May 2008The results were made public in October 2008 in Helsinki. The planning started immediately, and construction began in April 2009, with the pavilion due to be completed in December 2009. The head designer of the pavilion is architect Teemu Kurkela.
